The name suffix "Evo" (evolution) is quite misleading; you might think that the Northman shipyard in Poland has simply given its Maxus 24 (test in YACHT 10/13) an update - as is the trend everywhere at the moment. That is wrong. With the Maxus 24 Evo, Northman is presenting a completely new boat that is based on the concept of the previous model. The Maxus 24 has already been built and sold over 300 times since its market launch in spring 2013.
The hull has become slightly longer (plus 35 centimetres) with an unchanged width (2.55 metres) and now comes with the fashionable chines. The yacht builders in Wegorzewo have taken the design from the likewise new, larger sister Maxus 26 (test in YACHT 4/15) and adapted it to the size of the boat. The deck and cockpit are also completely new moulds. The windows in the cabin superstructure are now longer and larger, but the porthole at the rear of the cabin superstructure, which was previously typical of the shipyard, has been removed. The new look is therefore more harmonious, straightforward and modern.
The mast will be slightly higher than on the previous model and will carry around two square metres more sail area. And for the new Maxus 24 Evo, a total of four different hull attachment variants are now available. The centreboard with 400 kilograms of internal ballast remains standard. Alternatively, the boat is now also available with a normal fixed keel, bi-keels or a lifting keel. With a width of 2.55 metres, the new Maxus 24 Evo can also be easily transported on a standard road trailer and, in the versions with flexible deep drafts (swing keel or lifting keel), can also be conveniently launched and retrieved via a ramp.
The layout of the interior remains unchanged compared to the previous model. The transverse double berth in the aft section will be slightly larger in the new boat thanks to the increased hull length. A small galley corner and a separate toilet room, just like on the previous model, will continue to ensure suitability for touring. With all berths fully occupied, the small cruiser could sleep a total of six adults. But you have to like each other for that.
The Maxus 24 Evo will be presented for the first time in Germany at boot in Düsseldorf. The German distributor Sportboothandel Johannsen in Delitzsch near Leibzig is quoting a price of 28,750 euros including VAT for the ready-to-sail boat at the time of its market launch.
